Item Description
This is a truly fabulous and extremely rare antique French Painting of 'Leda And Swan' that dates from the second half of the 18th century. Discovered recently in the South of France this anonymous oil on canvas depicts the myth in which the god Zeus turned into a swan to seduce Leda, the Queen of Sparta. The painting is still in its original gilded wooden frame measuring (with the frame) about 55.5 x 48 x 7 cm or approximately 21.8 x 18.8 x 2.7 inches. Just the painting itself measures about 39 x 30.5 cm or 15.3 x 12 inches. In lovely antique condition with timeworn patina that in my opinion even further brings forth its true beauty and splendour today. It is exactly as I discovered it.
