Item Description
This is an absolutely magnificent and rare antique Madonna santo that was just discovered in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. The santo dates from the 19th century and is entirely hand carved from wood except for the glass eyes. The quality of this artistic piece is exceptional: it exudes an aura of peace and tranquility. The Madonna is depicted with her arms crossed whilst standing on a terrestrial globe with the moon and the serpent. In my opinion, this is a museum quality artefact that is remarkable and outstanding in its beauty and appeal. The statue measures about 90 x 32 x 32 cm or approximately 35.4 x 12.5 x 12.5 inches and it is in great antique condition with minor signs of ageing seen only in some minute flaking of the paint on the base.
