Item Description
This gorgeous antique Spanish santo was discovered in Barcelona. The statue dates from the mid 1800’s and it is entirely hand carved from wood except for the eyes which are made of glass. The santo’s arms can move, which allows them to be displayed in a desired position. The santo is mounted on a fantastic gilded stand consisting of the terrestrial globe and the moon surrounded by gilded clouds [representing the Heavens]. The Madonna is standing upon a serpent that is above the globe. This is a remarkable and highly decorative statue of Mary that measures [together with the stand] about 81 x 44 x 17 cm or approximately 31.8 x 17.3 x 6.7 inches. Just the statue of Madonna’s is about 62 cm or approximately 24.4 inches high and it is in lovely antique condition with some signs of ageing that in my opinion only bring forth its true beauty and splendour today.
