Item Description
A rare and desirable French 'Nougat' display table with its original detachable red marble top and 'Art Nouveau' style carved wooden base. This beautiful table, which was traditionally used for displaying nougat or other delicacies , came from an old Candy/Chocolate & Patisserie Shop in southern France. In its old faded green and yellow paint, the base has a double stretcher joining the two 'lyre' themed ends and has symbolically carved 'cartouches' with shamrocks at either end and oak leaves on both front and reverse sides. The detachable top is a gorgeously coloured piece of marble with hues of red and orange fading to beige and white. As old shop and café tables go, this is a highly unusual and beautiful one and I'm not in a hurry to get rid of it ! (Presently being used in the kitchen in my London flat).
Measures 42 inches long x 25 deep x 30 high. Made in France circa 1885-1910 ( Art Nouveau period). In good condition with some small wear and imperfection from its age and usage..
