Item Description
A charming subject to this late 19th century lead fountain piece of lovely quality and character. Depicting a young boy holding a fish, it is in superb original condition with no breaks, damage or repairs. Created in the round, the water emits from the fish's mouth, as the young boy looks down onto the fish as it presumably tries to squirm free from his arms. The 'playing child' is thought to derived from the Roman statue of 'a Boy strangling a Goose' after a lost bronze.
Part of the charm of this item is the years of natural weathering and patina and whilst it would work perfectly well in a large urn or container plumbed for water, a pond with a central part to raise it up, it is also a delightful sculpture to have in your home.
It is well cast, tactile and what it lacks in size it makes up for in presence. It is weighty so would need to be hand delivered by courier or collected from West Sussex.
HOW TO PAY: Bank transfer, credit card via an invoice sent to you.
Delivery is not included in the stated price. Please enquire for a quote. Collection is also possible from West Sussex.
