Item Description
This charming English first half 20th century painting, signed and believed to be by artist Arthur Bond (Arthur James Bond RSMA b1888-1958) has a very Arts and Crafts look and feel to it and is thought to depict a Cornish coastal landscape, painted in the style of the Bloomsbury Group. The scene depicting a Life Boat shack, bathers and a wide decking area with boats and steps down to the water.
The renowned BG formed in the early 20th century were mainly all located in central London, which is where Bond spent much of time as a young man, was a keen debator himself and had lived in Surrey, not far from the BG Charlston farmhouse in Firle, Sussex where they often met up.
The painting contains some lovely detail, and judging by the swimwear of the bathers, it is likely a 1930/40s piece.
It is also a good size at 60cm high x 70cm wide x 5cm deep (in frame).
A good for any interior, but perhaps especially for a coastal home, country cottage or arts and crafts interior.
