Item Description
Rare early 18th.c. oak cupboard, probably Northern European (Brittany to the Netherlands) c.1700. Divided into two sections with a single shelf (internal depth 17") plus a shallow 5" shelf toward the top of the upper cupboard. Lockable doors to both sections with superb ironwork. Primitive construction in thick solid oak boards throughout fixed with wooden pegs and handmade nails. The style and technique is similar to that used in the construction of six plank coffers in the 17th century. Flat top with a slight overhanging moulded edge over a frieze of carved nulling across the front. Simple moulded detail to the vertically arranged boards which form the doors, front and sides of the cabinet. Raised on shaped sledge feet with carved detail. Note also the chip carving along the bottom edge of the front boards. Excellent condition, solid and sturdy with fabulous colour and character. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
