Item Description
‘North West’ refers to a myriad group of villages with weaving styles borrowed from a wide range of influences from the surrounding regions, particularly Turkey and the Caucasus, and often including unique, tribal interpretations of sophisticated workshop weavings from further South.
This example dating to the late 19th Century is woven in high-grade hand-spun wool, with wonderful gracefully aged vegetable-dyed colours – the bold graphic drawing is creatively repeated across the central field in varying colours and forms, woven in hues of ivory, tan, terracotta red, and ochre; a highly characterful drawing. The border is accented with blue-grey detailing, providing a subtle contrast with the overall palette, pleasantly framing the drawing.
This early North West Pesian Runner is in very good practical condition for everyday use, having retained its outer borders and fringes on all sides.
An attractive example with tribal charm and chartacter to suit a wide variety of settings.
