Item Description

A Very Fine Pair of French Empire Period Mahogany Commodes with Marble Tops.

Made in the early 19th century, this pair of mahogany commodes are veneered in bookmatched timber of the finest quality. The curly veneers on the drawer fronts read beautifully from side to side and add significant visual interest to the pieces. Each commode retains its original black and grey marble top of simple overhanging rectangular form. The commodes have column supports to each side and the mounts are of exceptional quality ormolu. Standing on simple bun feet.

The quality of materials used throughout and the fine standard of construction leaves no doubt that these pieces were produced in one of the leading workshops of the period, probably in Paris. Pairs of commodes are always sought-after and this particular pair are of desirable size and stand beautifully.
