Item Description
An 18th Century French Louis XVI Walnut and Inlaid Commode with Two Drawers of Small Size.
This piece of Louis XVI furniture of small proportions has a moulded, overhanging rectangular top above two equally sized drawers. The top has two strung panels, surrounded by wide crossbanding, whereas the sides of the piece are recessed and panelled in the traditional sense as well as featuring stringing. This same stringing is used on the drawer fronts. Stringing is also used on the pilasters in imitation of fluting. It has a low apron with a central inlaid patera. It is of pegged construction, standing on square tapering legs with tapered collars to the top
