Item Description
Extremely large, 19th century French mirror, circa 1870, with narrow, watergilt, ropetwist frame. Where this mirror has been cleaned for more than 150 years, the gilding has thinned, especially around the edge closest to the glass, revealing the terracotta and cream gesso beneath. The original glass is in very good condition with just a very little age, gives an excellent reflection and this mirror can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape. There is a removals label on the back showing that the mirror was once in Agen (south-west of Bordeaux in central southern France) and moved to Landes - due south of Bordeaux and a little closer to Spain.
