Item Description
A 19th century French canapé in original paint. The show wood frame to this pretty sofa has retained its original painted surface for over a century and although the mossy green colour has faded and rubbed a little in places it still holds exquisite charm. The raised decorative relief is highlighted in faded worn gilt in perfect contrast. All old moth eaten fabric and stuffing has been carefully removed retaining as much of the original as possible, taken back to the base frame, cleaned, clamped, strengthened and wood worm treated purely as a precautionary measure to avoid any hidden surprises or wobbles in the future!
The seat has been re sprung and re webbed for extra comfort, both seat and back professionally re upholstered in pure neutral linen and finally trimmed with French brass antiqued studs as it originally had been. French canapé/sofa circa 1860.
