Item Description

Early 20th century section hand carved fairground octopus illuminated figure

Due to the construction and metal hanging hooks on this hand carved fairground figure, we believe it would have been hung in situ at some point. The figure is made from section piece of pine wood, well-constructed if a bit crude in detail. The springs attached are removable and we feel would have likely had cloth or paper over them at some point to convey the octopus’s tentacles. This item has been rewired to a UK 240v power source with 2 light brass light fitting (bulbs not included) as the old fitting was not safe for current day use. The light is also fitted with a plastic switch for convenience of use. A complete one of piece of quirky fairground history in our humble opinion.

Size in inches: H 10” x W 36” x D 35” (including springs attached)
Origin: Unknown
Date: 1920 - 1940
Condition: Aged

A naturally aged items with wear and tear, the section wood is prominent due to the age of the item and obvious use. The item is solid and in one piece however the small details of wood have been chips, cracked and one of the bottom areas is missing a small piece of wood. This item would have been split into 3 key sections at the body which is visible. Rust is present across all the metal areas and one of the springs is missing. Overall, in very presentable condition even though it’s very old and worn.

We strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections are unclear to avoid disappointment upon purchase.
