Item Description

18th Century Mezzotint Drolls; 'A Knowing One' and 'I've Got De Monish'; two half-length caricatures after Dighton from a series published by Bowles from the 1770's.
The first 'Printed for & Sold by Carington Bowles', the second under the partnership of Bowles & Carver. Interestingly, 'I've Got De Monish' is an eighteenth century reprint, published around 1790, evidenced by the clearing in the title to reflect the new partnership of Bowles & Carver. Carver is recognised as exhausting the plate stock of Bowles rather than replenishing.
6 1/2 in x 8 3/8 in
These two prints have recently been framed in copies of eighteenth century parcel-gilt moulding frames by Academy Framing at The Royal Academy of Arts, London.
